[ENTREPRENEUR FOCUS] Gate Stream - Boarding, finally designed for passengers 

Can you introduce yourselves?

Maxence Coyard de Sorbier,  I am a student in the Grande École program at IÉSEG School of Management, specializing in entrepreneurship, and I lead the strategic development of Gate Stream. After several experiences in strategy, brand growth, and international development, I decided to fully commit to entrepreneurship. My role: building partnerships with airports and airlines, and driving the company’s growth.

Romaric Régnaud, a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Exeter and CEO of Gate Stream, brings the project’s scientific and technical expertise. Having worked in the R&D teams at Eviden (formerly Atos), he has developed high-performance complex systems. At Gate Stream, he leads algorithms, modeling, simulations, and passenger flow optimization.

Maximilien Canale, a graduate of ESME Sudria and former apprentice at Airbus, strengthens the hardware and embedded systems dimension. His expertise in electronics and technical integration makes it possible to bring the Gate Stream solution to life on the ground.

Together, we combine business, engineering, data, and field expertise to tackle the challenge of making boarding a performance driver for airports and airlines.

What is the concept of Gate Stream?

Gate Stream is a solution designed to streamline passenger boarding in commercial aviation through a “phygital” approach.

Concretely, we combine:

- A passenger flow orchestration algorithm

- Dynamic signage deployed directly at the boarding gate

Our technology organizes passengers before they enter the aircraft, reducing aisle interference, waiting times, and operational friction.

The result: faster, smoother boarding, with no aircraft modifications and full compatibility with existing infrastructure.

How did you come up with the idea?

The idea for Gate Stream originated during an internship I completed alongside Stéphane Legatelois, an experienced entrepreneur and shareholder in Gate Stream, who had been reflecting for several years on the issue of aircraft boarding. Due to time constraints and other commitments, he had never been able to fully dedicate himself to it.

Convinced of the potential of this idea, I discussed it with Romaric and Maximilien to seriously assess the market, technical feasibility, and operational challenges. For nearly six months, we analyzed the sector, spoke with aviation professionals, and studied existing boarding methods.

That’s when we realized the scale of the problem: despite major advancements in the aviation industry, boarding remains a chaotic, stressful, and inefficient process.

Disorganized queues, passengers crossing paths in the aisle, cabin baggage slowing down the flow… this stage has become a real operational bottleneck.

As we explored further, we understood that boarding:

- directly impacts delays and flight punctuality

- represents a significant cost for airlines

- degrades the passenger experience

- and remains one of the last major airport processes that is still poorly optimized

This realization led to the creation of Gate Stream.

Where are you today? What are your biggest achievements?

Today, Gate Stream is in the operational deployment phase with several industry stakeholders.

We are working with French airports such as Lyon-Saint-Exupéry Airport, Marseille-Provence Airport, and Strasbourg Airport.

We have also initiated discussions with airlines and system providers (DCS).

Among our greatest achievements:

- developing and filing a technology based on advanced simulations

- gaining concrete interest from major industry players

- and above all, confirming that our solution addresses a real need shared across the entire industry

What are your objectives for the coming years?

Our objectives are clear:

- Finalize our fundraising

- Validate our proof of concept (POC) in real conditions

- Deploy our solution at scale across European airports

- Continue improving our algorithm using real-world data

In the medium term, our goal is to make Gate Stream a standard in boarding.
