[PORTRAIT] Chloé Oster – Une carrière atypique

- Quel a été ton parcours à l’IÉSEG ? 

Je suis rentrée à l’IÉSEG en 2010, juste après mon bac. J’ai choisi cette École parmi toutes les écoles de commerce pour plusieurs raisons : les séjours possibles à l’étranger dès la deuxième année, la possibilité d’avoir tous les cours en anglais, le bon classement, les professeurs de qualité ; mais aussi les cours de créativité, de théâtre, les séminaires… 

En 2011, j’ai profité de l’opportunité des échanges académiques et décidé de passer un an au Mexique. Cette expérience m’a complètement transformée. J’ai passé la moitié de mon temps à étudier le management de l’art à l’université et l’autre moitié à faire du théâtre, de la danse, de la peinture… En revenant j’en étais sûre : je voulais combiner mes apprentissages techniques de l’IÉSEG avec ma passion pour l’art en général et le théâtre en particulier. 
J’ai continué pendant tout mon cursus à intégrer de plus en plus de part artistique dans mes travaux et stages faits avec l’IÉSEG. Pour mon mémoire, j’ai fait un Projet de Consulting, autour d’un projet de vaisselle personnalisée par des artistes locaux et réalisée à la main. On m’a proposé d’intégrer l’incubateur de l’IÉSEG. J’ai hésité mais finalement j’ai choisi de commencer une école de théâtre.

- As-tu ressenti une « communauté IÉSEG » pendant ces années ? 

Pendant ces années, j’ai construit un groupe de très bons amis, avec qui je suis encore très proche aujourd’hui. Nous nous sommes rencontrés à l’IÉSEG et tous ont aujourd’hui des parcours très différents : coach, chef de projet dans la publicité, responsable dans une association, auto-entrepreneur, embauchés dans des grands groupes, consultants… L’IÉSEG est une fourmilière de gens avec de bonnes idées, ce qui est très stimulant !

- Quel est ton parcours professionnel depuis ta sortie de l’IÉSEG ? 

A ma sortie de l’IÉSEG, j’ai déménagé à Paris et fait trois ans d’école professionnelle de théâtre. En sortant, j’ai monté ma compagnie de théâtre : la Compagnie de l’Obskuravu. Je suis maintenant auteur, metteur en scène, comédienne, co-directrice artistique de ma Compagnie et professeur de théâtre. 
J’utilise ma formation en business et gestion de projets d’une part ; et ma sensibilité et mes explorations artistiques d’autre part. Je suis comblée de cette vie et de ces multiples métiers que j’ai la chance d’exercer. 
Et je fais encore de nombreux projets artistiques avec mes amis de Guadalajara, rencontrés lors de mon premier échange à l’IÉSEG ! Et mes amis de promo sont un soutien indéfectible au quotidien. 

- Un conseil pour la dernière promo ?

Se rendre compte de toutes nos qualités, et être confiant. Avec de la sincérité et de la motivation, on trouve forcément des expériences qui nous correspondent. Il ne faut pas avoir peur d’y passer du temps et de motiver son réseau. Trouver un stage ou un emploi qui nous plaît réellement vaut tous les efforts du monde !

- Un de tes projets sur lequel tu as envie d’insister ?

Ma première pièce de théâtre Sous le Même Ciel s’est démarquée lors d’un concours et a été publiée aux éditions de l’Harmattan. Elle est disponible à la commande dans toutes les librairies et sur internet (Place des libraires, Fnac, Cultura, Amazon…). 
L’histoire : Dans un monde où l'individualisme grandit, ce spectacle poétique met en scène la rencontre d'une rêveuse, alors dite paumée, et d'un jeune cadre, visiblement trop sérieux. Tel un roman de développement personnel, l'histoire donne des ailes et encourage le public à repousser ses propres limites. Je l’ai également mise en scène et nous rejouons très bientôt !

- What was your IÉSEG journey?

I started at IÉSEG in 2010, just after my baccalaureate. I chose this School above all the business schools for several reasons: the possibility of going abroad from the second year, the possibility of being taught in English, its high ranking and the quality of the teaching; but also because of the creative classes such as theatre, seminars etc.
In 2011, I took advantage of the academic exchange programme and decided to spend a year in Mexico. This experience completely changed me. I spent half my time studying art management at university and the other half doing drama, dance, painting etc. When I came back I was sure: I wanted to combine my technical learning from IÉSEG with my passion for art in general and theatre in particular.
Throughout my studies I continued to incorporate my artistic side more and more in my IÉSEG work and internships. For my dissertation, I did a Consulting Project, on personalised tableware handmade by local artists. I was offered the opportunity to join the IÉSEG Incubator. I thought about it, but eventually chose to start at a theatre school.

- Did you have a sense of an ‘IÉSEG community’ during these years?

During those years, I formed a group of very good friends and we’re still very close today. We met at IÉSEG and have all taken very different paths: coach, project manager in advertising, head of an organisation, running their own business, working for large companies, consultants etc. IÉSEG is a hive of people with good ideas, which is very stimulating!

- What has your career path been since leaving IÉSEG?

When I left IÉSEG, I moved to Paris and did three years at a professional theatre school. Afterwards, I set up my theatre company, the Compagnie de l'Obskuravu. I am now a writer, director, actress, co-artistic director of my company and a theatre teacher.
I am drawing on my background in business and project management while also calling on my sensitivity and my artistic training. I feel very fulfilled with my life and to be lucky enough to be able to use all my skills.
I still do a lot of artistic projects with my friends from Guadalajara, who I met during my year abroad with IÉSEG! And friends from my year give me great support on a daily basis.

- Do you have any tips for the current students?

Make the most of all your qualities, and be confident. With honesty and motivation, we inevitably find the experiences that correspond to who we are. Don’t be afraid to take your time and use your network. Finding an internship or a job that you really love is worth going to enormous lengths!

- Is there a particular project you want to highlight?

My first play Sous le Même Ciel won a competition and was published by Harmattan. It is available to order in all bookshops and on the internet (Place des libraires, Fnac, Cultura, Amazon ...).
The story: In a world of growing individualism, this poetic performance recounts the meeting between a dreamer, who might be described as clueless, and a young, clearly over-serious executive. Like a personal development novel, the story encourages the public to spread their wings and push their own limits. I also staged the play and we will be performing it again very soon!
