C2Rénovation – Supporting energy efficiency

What’s the concept?

The concept behind C2Rénovation is to provide turnkey solutions for our clients in ensuring their building portfolios comply with the French Tertiary and BACS decrees. Our added value lies in our exclusive focus on buildings over 2,000 m², allowing us to generate significant energy savings and access the necessary funding so our clients end up paying little to nothing—ideally, nothing at all.

Our specialty? Zero out-of-pocket costs. To make that more concrete, here’s our most illustrative example: Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, owned by Vinci. The total value of the projects: €9.5 million. Total out-of-pocket cost: €7. That’s €1 per operation across 7 operations. Today, we’re an official provider for Vinci and have since acquired several other airports in their portfolio.

How did the idea come about?

I can’t take credit for the idea—it came from my business partner. He’s worked in the energy sector much longer than I have, and I owe him everything I know in this field. When you look at the world today, there are only a handful of topics that dominate conversation year-round: finance and ecology are two of them, and they’re not going anywhere. That’s when everything clicked: connecting these two—large-scale renovation projects, massive energy savings, and trading that value on the market through parallel financing.

How do you manage both your studies and running a business?

When it comes to linking school and work, to be honest, it’s complicated. Right now, I do benefit from the student-entrepreneur status, which allows me 10 days of absence instead of just 4. In my field, I still think that’s not enough, but I know the school is trying to be understanding. I’ve also managed to build a closer relationship with my teachers, who are supportive and tolerant, and that gives me extra strength.

If I had to say one simple thing, it would be that all schools should invest more in their students—or at least try to understand their fields and the progress they’re making in their projects. I believe it’s a real source of motivation for a school to involve its students more and encourage them to become the “Changemakers” of tomorrow.

These days I might be working 16 or 17 hours a day, but I always keep in mind something my father used to say: “If you want to be in the top 0.1%, you have to do what 99.99% of people won’t.” And I really love what I’m doing—I learn something new every day, I’m in direct contact with my clients, and there’s a lot of human connection involved. That’s what I truly enjoy.

Where do you stand today?

Even though it’s still a bit taboo to talk about in France—which is a shame, because it should be a strong motivator—across all the energy-related projects we’re involved in, we’re expecting to generate around €8 million in net profit in 2024.

In parallel, we’re restructuring to expand into new markets and stay adaptable in the energy savings certificate (CEE) landscape, which changes constantly. And more is coming…

What are your goals for the coming years?

Our goals are simple: outperform our current numbers, scale our solutions across Europe, add new services (many of which are already in the pipeline), and grow as much as possible!
